Learning Outcomes

  • Educate the psychosocial community oncology network and the BC Cancer Agency interdisciplinary team about two “hot” topics, namely death anxiety and cancer survivorship
  • Provide concrete and practical tools and resources to the interdisciplinary team in working with both death anxiety and survivorship
  • Highlight current research and effective interdisciplinary care approaches with the goal of improving referral and informational linkages between agency and community practice
  • Support community based psychosocial oncology practice by providing education, resources and tools on death anxiety and survivorship concerns

Organizer:

Elaine Shearer, MA has been the Community Education Coordinator with the Patient and Family Counselling Services at BCCA since 2009. In her role she participates in projects and committees that promote education and knowledge exchange among health care professionals with the ultimate goal of improved patient access to psychosocial services

This session will highlight organizational changes in the BC Cancer Agency that will support new directions in Cancer Survivorship- in British Columbia and beyond. This overview will include updates on the newly created Cancer Survivorship platform in the BC Cancer Agency, community based research on survivorship care planning, and pilot work on Survivorship programs for both survivors and their family members.
