Learning Objectives for Knowledge Translation Plenary - AM Session
Location: Bayshore Ballroom Salon DEF

At the end of this session, the participants will be able to:

  1. Describe the results of MA.20, a randomized breast cancer trial
  2. Identify chaperone proteins for prostate cancer
  3. Examines the development of anticancer drugs in an academic environment
  4. Describe the management of ductal carcinoma in situ
  5. Differentiate between true recurrences and new primary breast cancer
  6. Inspect two BC Cancer Agency web resources for patients and families

 

Knowledge Translation Plenary - PM Session - will be split into 3 Tracks

Learning Objectives for Track 1 - Breakthroughs and Innovations
Location: Bayshore Ballroom Salon DEF

At the end of this session, the participant will be able to:

  • Understand how the BC Cancer Foundation funds cancer research
  • Examine a trial of fluorescence guided surgery for oral oncology
  • Review a Leukemia treatment trial
  • Examine the development of novel prostate cancer therapeutics
  • Apply a software platform to facilitate research
  • Understand how cancer survival can be improved through delivering care in high volume, multidisciplinary teams in well planned cancer programmes

Learning Objectives for Track 2 - Community Oncology Partners Plenary
Location: Stanley Park Ballroom Salon 1

  • Review the Northern Cancer Control Strategy and highlight evolving partnerships and initiatives that enhances cancer care in the Northern.
  • Describe a pilot navigation project with volunteers and health care professionals that enhances care for cancer patients.
  • Report on a survivorship care planning project for colorectal cancer patients.
  • Provide an update on the cancer prevention initiatives by the BC Cancer Agency Prevention team
  • Provide an overview of the BC Cancer Agency Communities Oncology Network and highlight plans for strengthening and enhancing the network for cancer patients and health care providers.

 

Learning Objectives for Track 3 - Patient Safety
Location: Stanley Park Ballroom Salon 2

  • Discuss learning points from near miss patient safety events at the BC Cancer Agency
  • Discuss safety concerns related to radiation treatment programs
  • Learn how Venous Thromboembolism events can be reduced in oncology patients by implementing a prophylaxis policy
  • Learn how technology can introduce unanticipated errors in healthcare
